Praying Psalm 150

Reasons to Praise

Read Psalm 150

Read the Psalm twice, noticing the repetition and imagine the scene as it unfolds.

1 Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary;

praise him in his mighty heavens.

2 Praise him for his acts of power;

praise him for his surpassing greatness.

3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,

praise him with the harp and lyre,

4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,

praise him with the strings and pipe,

5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,

praise him with resounding cymbals.

6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord.

CONSIDER THESE QUESTIONS

1) This is the last chapter in the book of Psalms. What do you notice about its theme?
2) What is special about the imagery of many instruments praising God?
3) There is no suggested timeline for when to praise God in this psalm, or for how long. The methods of praising God vary, but when put together they probably create a scene of celebration and fanfare. Spend some time reflecting on how you will praise God throughout your day with your life and in the context of your relationships.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, thank you for giving me life and breath and many reasons for praising you. I confess that my instrument of praise to you sometimes gets dusty when I don't regularly reflect on your acts of power and surpassing greatness. Forgive me for when I don't eagerly join the party, and help me to be aware of the worthiness of praise to you today and this week. Amen.
